THE GOLDEN RING

Many of the cities of Vladimir Province belong to the "Golden Ring" (Zolotoye Koltso). These cities are known for their historic, architectural, and religious significance. The Golden Ring is one of the oldest Russian routs. It goes to the northeast of Moscow and forms a circle. There are many interesting ancient Russian cities and towns along the way, full of history and unique Russian architecture of the twelfth to seventeenth centuries. The classical route (counter-clockwise) starts from Moscow and goes through Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov Velikiy, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, and Sergiev Posad. All of these cities and towns are located relatively close to each other. Many tourists can travel the Golden Ring by bus, car, or even bicycle.

Vladimir region is located east of Moscow, between Ivanovo, Moscow, Ryazan, and Nizhegorodsky Provinces. Vladimir is the center of Vladimir Province and is located approximately 180km east of Moscow on the Klyazma River.
